Why the pegasus

While celebrating the success and milestones for the 5th year anniversary of my law practice in Texas, I decided it was time to create a brand image and logo for the firm that would reflect my unique personality.

Throughout my life there has always been a well known iconic figure that is special and close to my heart, the red Mobil Oil Pegasus.

I was first introduced to the Pegasus at a very young age since my beloved Stepdad, whom I was very close to, worked for Mobil Oil as a geologist. The oil company moved our family from California to Indonesia. Living in a third world country and going to an international school opened my eyes to different cultures and ways of life and planted a seed that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping people achieve equality by breaking down discrimination and intolerance.

After two exciting years in Indonesia, Mobil transferred us to Dallas where I finally saw the famous illuminated red Pegasus sign on top of the Magnolia office building in downtown. My Stepdad always loved the Pegasus and hung Mobil Oil tin signs in the garage and collected toy trains that bared the logo.

After attending law school and practicing in Washington, D.C. for a few years, in August of 2004 I contemplated moving home to Dallas for a new life and to start my own firm. Little did I know then how hard the road back to Dallas would be as my dearly-loved Stepdad suddenly passed away.

Lorie Moves to the Dallas, TX Area to Start Her Law Practice

Three weeks after his passing, I moved back to Dallas. My family was devastated and I was starting a whole new life and career, with no certainty of success. I wasn’t even licensed to practice in Texas! The first step was to take the Texas Bar in February of 2005. I poured myself into the most intense training schedule possible, and for 8 weeks all I did was study, sleep, eat, and exercise.

The 2 and 1/2 day exam was being held at the Dallas Convention Center in downtown, so I stayed at the Adolphus Hotel close by. With a heavy heart, I walked to the exam on the first day feeling tired and uncertain about the future. During the lunch break I decided to go back to the hotel for some much needed rest, and at some point I looked up in the sky and there was the red Mobil Oil Pegasus staring down at me.

As I walked, I was mesmerized by its sight and could not take my eyes away from it until it was completely out of view. It was at that moment I knew I was connecting with my Stepdad and that he was looking over me saying everything was going to be all right.
